Offshore Law Firm Pushes Expansion In Hong Kong

, the offshore law firm which opened an office in Hong Kong last November, has appointed Arigen Liang as a counsel in its Hong Kong dispute resolution and insolvency practice.

Liang joins Carey Olsen from another offshore law firm in Hong Kong, Harney Westwood & Riegels. She qualified in Singapore, England and Wales and the British Virgin Islands. 

She specialises in shareholder and contentious trust disputes, security enforcements, non-performing loans and cross-border insolvency transactions. Liang is experienced in dealing with Norwich Pharmacal and Beddoe applications for high net worth families and individuals.

Previous cases in Singapore involved the restructuring of Continental Chemicals Corporation, which involved complex cross-border legal issues and entities incorporated in Singapore, BVI, Bermuda, Seychelles, Thailand and China, Carey Olsen said.

“With the firm's recent expansion into Hong Kong we have seen an increase in the demand for our offshore legal services amongst existing and new Asian clients, particularly in the areas of restructuring and insolvency, including shareholders' disputes," Carey Olsen's managing partner in Hong Kong, Michael Makridakis, said. 

Carey Olsen also opened a Singapore office in October last year.

Among other recent appointments by the firm, Carey Olsen last December recruited James Cooke, previously of Ogier in Guernsey, as a senior associate within its Guernsey office in a newly-created role.
